The Division of Linguistics and Multilingual Studies welcomes applications from polytechnic diploma holders and GCE 'A' Level students. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for a written test and interview to assess their suitability for the programme.
Local Polytechnic Diploma holders
Applications for LMS are open to all local Polytechnic Diploma holders regardless of the diploma obtained from NP, NYP, RP, SP and TP.
GCE 'A' Level
Applicants that have finished their General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE 'A' level) in the English medium must have obtained all of the following:
Three GCE 'A' level subjects with passes in at least two subjects H2 level.
A good pass in General Paper (or Knowledge Inquiry), which may be waived in special cases where, in the opinion of the Admissions Selection Committee, the applicants have done exceptionally well in other subjects at H2, H1 or 'O' levels.
A minimum 'S' grade in a mother tongue language.
Mother Tongue Requirements
A minimum of 'S' grade in H1 Mother Tongue Language (MTL).
A mother tongue subject (Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil) taken at a separate sitting of the GCE 'A' level examination is acceptable for purposes of admission.
You need not take H1 MTL examination if you have obtained a D7 or better in Higher MTL at the 'O' level as you would have deemed to have fulfilled the H1 MTL requirement. As MTL is an integral part of the 'A' level curriculum, H1 MTL cannot be replaced with another subject and students should continue to be engaged in the learning of MTL. H1 Non-Tamil Indian Language (Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, etc.) or H1 foreign language (French, German, Japanese, etc.) may be taken in lieu of MTL.
